The small town of Haines, Alaska, situated in the southern region of the state, is absolutely beautiful. However, this is not a popular cruising destination, while most Alaska cruises will go to Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, and Sitka, fewer cruises come to Haines. So, when we got to go it was a real treat to see this quaint little town.
It is important to note that if you happen to have bad weather on your cruise you might have Haines pop up on your itinerary in lieu of another location to avoid in weather. However, when I first arrived here, I thought there wasn't going to be anything to do as it's not quite as bustling as some of the other popular Alaska destinations, but I was wrong - there is a lot to do here. So, if Haines, Alaska happens to be on your itinerary then I have three popular excursions I will share with you in this post.

Haines, Alaska Excursions
Bear and Eagle Sightings Excursion
A bear and eagle sighting experience is definitely and exciting adventure to go on. Alaska is home to one of the largest congregations of eagles in the world, and you can witness these magnificent creatures up close. Whether you visit in October or any other time of the year, you are guaranteed to encounter these majestic birds. During our summer visit to Haines, Alaska, we spotted an eagle right at the port, just in front of the cruise ships. The sight was truly awe-inspiring.
On these excursions, you'll embark on a bus ride to the Chilkoot River, accompanied by a naturalist who provides fascinating insights about the local wildlife. As you gaze out of the bus windows, you can spot bears and eagles in their natural habitat. To top it off, some of these excursions offer a picnic lunch at the end of the excursion.
Eagle Preserve Rafting Excursion
If you're looking for a more relaxed excursion, consider the Eagle Preserve Rafting experience. Some of these excursions offer a relaxing time floating down the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve.
This is a great way to have a relaxing excursion to take in the scenery while watching for bald eagles. Don't forget your binoculars!
Davidson Glacier Wilderness Safari
An excursion that should be on every nature enthusiast's list is the Davidson Glacier Wilderness Safari. I got to see the Mendenhall Glacier on my Alaskan journey, and I will definitely do this one on my next trip.
Many of these Davidson Glacier excursions offer the opportunity to hike to your canoe and then you get to canoe right up to the glacier. How cool is that?
Alaska is a place of incredible natural beauty, and planning your excursions is essential to fully immerse yourself in all it offers.
No matter what excursion you choose, you will for sure have a unique and unforgettable experience. Make sure you plan ahead and book your excursions early so you don't miss out on your favorite activities. Unfortunately, that is what happened to me, and we ended up walking the town and exploring but let me tell you if that is all you choose to do then you still won't be disappointed.
Don't forget your packing essentials when go on any excursion or walk through any town in Alaska.
